Empoyering Writers – Teachers and Parents’ Resources

For being a writing teacher, I am looking for new stuff. This time, I found a good resources that I use in my classroom to help my students write meaningful personal narratives  doing “Show-not-Tell”, for example.

Show, do not tell is a technique often employed by writers to enable the reader to experience the story through action, words, thoughts, senses, and feelings rather than through the author’s exposition, summarization, and description. The goal is not to drown the reader in heavy-handed adjectives, but rather to allow readers to experience the author’s ideas by interpreting significant, well-chosen textual details. The technique applies equally to fiction and nonfiction.” (Wikipedia, 2013)

Another useful resource is the essay (expository writing) file. I will definitely use “The Golden Bricks” page to make powerful charts that I hang in my room. Everything that I teach, I make a chart to remind my students about what they just have learned. Many times, when implementing the workshop model, I do not know how my chart will look like and how to organize in a way that students will understand. But looking at these resources, they give some ideas to make my charts meaningful to kiddos.
